The first thing you should know is when your production instance will be upgraded to the Winter ’24 edition of Salesforce. It is critical that you test all of your organization’s primary use cases before this date to ensure that everything continues to work. Although major issues are rare in Salesforce releases, these checks should still be performed.

If you already know which instance your production org is on, go to Salesforce Trust, click on your instance name, and select “Maintenance.” This will show you when the Salesforce Winter ’24 version will be available in your organization.
Sandbox Preview Information | Winter 24
The second thing you should know is how (and when) your sandbox will be refreshed. Being prepared is critical considering this provides the first opportunity to test your system on the new release. You can sign up for a pre-release org, but none of your customizations will be available.
Salesforce offers two sandbox release windows, depending on whether your sandbox is a “Preview” instance or a “Non-Preview” instance. Stay tuned for additional details on Sandbox previews, however, most sandboxes seem to be improved on August 26th, 2023.
